The Cittern has the same range as the octave mandolin with an extra higher course tuned to B or A There are many ways in which a Cittern player might have this instrument tuned. ADADA and G D A E B. are examples. In the 16th century citterns were known to be commonly found in British barber shops and hung on the wall for the use of customers.  It's much bigger than normal and more evolved to suit the folk music and players in this century.
